The Family Next door

The book: Essie looks as if she has a perfect life, a loving husband, beautiful home, and family. But Essie has a secret shame from her past that still haunts her. Essie is not the only person with secrets on the street where she lives. Will the arrival of a new neighbor disrupt the status quo and open this Pandora’s box?
You might like it because: It’s an emotional story of family drama with a mystery thrown in that will keep you guessing till the end. It’s an easy read; think Desperate Housewives meets Big Little Lies.
What did other people say?
“A book Liane Moriarty fans will love.” – Marie Claire
“Stunning and beautiful as well as heartbreaking and inspiring.”- Kirkus Reviews
How quickly will you get into the book? By page seven I was very interested. Page thirty-seven was the point at which there was no going back for me.
You might not like it because: There are many different characters in the book, so we never go too deep into any of them, which might frustrate some readers. It may be too much like a soap opera for other readers. It’s a very lighthearted take on some very serious topics.
What might you read next?
Liane Moriarty is the master of this type of fiction and, I think, does it better. You could read her book Big Little Lies.
Or stick with another Australian author, but read some historical fiction. Pick up The Secret River by Kate Grenville.
